Besides my 66 F100 Short Bed I also have a 57 Tbird 312. Here is a link to a starter that I am going to get. This may be known to all of you but passing the info along just in case.
This starter engages from the opposite side of the ring gear/flywheel which can help in the case of a worn ring gear side. Ring gear replacement on an early Tbird is very labor intensive.
I didn't know about this, useful if you want to shed odd a few pounds off. Do you know the weight of the original starter?
I'll have to figure out a way of bringing it down here, probably pay more for shipping than the starter itself.

I have one on my 66 F100 with a 390 and headers. I used this starter with heavy battery cables and have put about 15000 hard miles on it since. A good investment by my standards. The light weight and size makes installation and clearances a snap.
