Best place for repro wipers

My rubber is bad on my wiper blades and the metal piece that the rubber attaches to is rusted and pitted bad. Where’s the best place to get good reproduction ones? Dc?

I have had good luck with eBay, and NOS or NORS, OEM. No problem with hard rubber.

If you use the search function, you can find threads listing parts numbers for the aftermarket manufactures like Anco or Trico, possibly others.

You may want to test the tension of the existing wiper arms, they do deteriorate. I have an old tension tester. New rubber refills with worn out arms will show you no improvement, they can actually be lifted by normal airflow going down the road, and will float instead of gripping the windshield.

I'd like to see a pic of the old tension tester if you have one. Is it an Anco brand Tel-Tale?

ibuzzard,
If they do test weak, can you adjust them to hold the windshield better or do you simply replace them?

Thanks in Advance,,,,,, BarnieTrk

I think there is a spring in there which can be changed out by a person more inclined/less lazy than me. I would just change out the arms.

That tester is a sales tool. I used to sell TBA (Tires, Batteries, Accessories) when I worked in service stations prior to my career as an IBEW electrician(retired). Part of my wages were based on how much TBA I sold. Now I sell hotdogs/sausages, and am payed to insult , er, I mean tease old farts like myself. I haven’t had my teeth knocked out yet - but it’s early days.

Remember full service gas stations? You could get a fill-up, all windows and headlights cleaned, fluids and tires checked, get some S&H Green Stamps, and a different piece of dinnerware or silverware or bath linen each week , if you’d but “fill her up with Ethyl”?

Now you're lucky if they’ll let you use the restroom, and most of the two bay stations are history, having been turned into more profitable C-stores. I miss those greasy old stations of my youth.

I did not know there was a replaceable spring....

Yep, I remember full service gas stations. I worked at one such station. I assisted in the stripping out of the mechanical gear in the two bays and then we moved in pallets of Ralston Purina feeds. We sold anything Purina out of those bays... including loading out lots of dog chow, rabbit chow, cat chow... and we still pumped in your gasoline, checked your motor oil, windshield washer fluid, cleaned your windows & lights and checked the air pressure in all five of your tires. All for 2$/hour.

Was just on eBay a little while ago, searching Vintage Car and Truck Parts for “Trico”, saw some of those replacement springs on auction, cannot tell you how to change them out.
