Have a '99 F350 ext. Cab with manual paddle mirrors on it. I would like to upgrade to a telescopic power mirror.
The question I have, is the wiring for a power mirror sitting in the door as part of the standard wiring harness? Or, is there a connector under the dash somewhere that the mirror can be wired to.
I understand that I will have to change the console on the armrest to one having a mirror controller on it. I figured I could grab one second (junk yard) hand.
Being that it is a 99 I am guessing you will not have the wiring you are thinking, especially if you have manual mirrors currently. I want to say 03 was the year they starting having wiring there no matter what. I could be wrong. I know when I put the 08 and up style mirrors on my 99 I had the wires for the power mirrors since mine had those to begin with but the turn signals and mirror heat I had to add all myself. Not hard to do but a little time consuming.
Let us know how it goes. Don’t forget the pictures.
I went with the 08 style (square with large mirrors) in my 2k.. They are really a lot better. I do have the power mirror adjusters though. I didnt add the heat/blinker
options so the mirrors had an adaptor my old style plug could use for the new style mirrors. They are so much better that I would use them as manual mirrors until I got
the wires in place.
You would have to pull the door panel off and remove the door speaker to find out. It's not that hard of a job. You will want to know what style of plug you have anyway (if you have one).
I'm not sure if you have the mirrors yet but I got mine from 1A Auto and was very happy with them. I was able to order a pair that matched the plug style I had. If not, they have some conversion plugs that can help make the connection without cutting plugs. Again, that's if you have a plug.
I can't count how many times I've taken the door panels off. It is very easy and Ford did a good job designing them for removal (there is no cable to detach as the handle mounts to the door itself and not the panel). For visual assistance, here is a write-up I "borrowed" from the internet...
