Ford is chasing a bad part number and can't get me the correct one. They say their system doesn't have an updated part number.

Anyone else have this issue?

my 2018 has the 9.75 rear end with 3:73 gears. It clucks when shifting from reverse to drive as though the u-joints are shot. However upon my assessment when turning the drive shaft by hand with the engine off, park brake on and in neutral. the excessive play is in the rear end. I intend to have the dealer look at it soon.

At at times when shifting the driveshaft play can be felt.

You out might crawl under your truck and attempt to turn the driveshaft both directions to assess any excessive play issues.

good luck

The u-joint is toast. Bearings are dust. My problem is finding a new one to replace this busted one. Ford can't give me the right part. Neither can oreillys or Napa. No one knows what the right part is.

Have you tried a driveshaft shop or someplace like 4WP?

here are a few links for u-joints that I’ve found,

the advise for going to a driveshaft specialist in your area is the best option.

Here's the other problem:

It's a company vehicle and the company who takes care vehicle maintenance (ARI) wants an OEM part for this repair.

Is it a dealer that's trying to procure the part?

Ummm, since (ARI) is the company who takes care of company vehicle maintenance, shouldn’t it be up to them to find or locate said part for this repair.

Just wondering.

I don't think so. They basically handle paying for the maintenance.

I was asking if someone had a similar experience so that maybe I could tell the repair shop what part they needed. I move to a new position as soon as my truck gets back and it can't come soon enough.

Got some news this morning though. Ford said it was a bad design and got scrapped altogether. The fix is to order a whole new driveshaft. They don't make that u-joint or a replacement for it anymore.
