Rear end "CLUNK" when down shifting.

98 F150 2wd 4.2L

I'm getting a "CLUNK" from my rear end when down shifting.

If I shut the overdrive off first it does not clunk.

I did a search and it seems like this may be a common problem. I think I read that the yoke needs to be greased?

Can someone shed some light on this for me and give me some more info on how to solve this problem.

Check out the u-joints. Get under the truck and see if there is any play in the drive shaft. While stopped, try shifting from drive to reverse, then back to drive. Does it clunk then too?
