Rear seatback wont latch up into place

I recently had my entire rear window replaced due to a faulty rear defroster because of the poor solder job done by Ford. While cleaning out my truck today I noticed the rear seat back behind the drivers side was not latched into place. The service techs undoubtedly folded it down while replacing the window. For the life of me, I cant get it to lock/latch back into place. I see how the latch behind the seat is supposed to work, but its just not catching. I tried for 30 minutes to get it to latch back in place and couldn't. Ive googled the issue and didn't come across any useful info how to get it back into place, only how to fold it down. Anyone have any advice? Thanks! BTW Its a Supercrew.

is the latch in the unlocked position they may have tripped it into the lock position, do you have the Latch release kit that Built right Industries make.
Also they may have sprung the seat back you may have to shim it to get it to latch.

Make sure the sliding dowel is aligned with the latch - lift the bottom seat up about 4" (which will tilt the top out slightly) then give a firm push on the seat back. That should be enough to latch it, at least it is on mine.

Not sure if any of these will help but:

What my latch looks like un-latched:

Dowel location

Tilt seat up about this much:

With seat tilted, press here firmly, it should click back into place. I can not get this to click with the seat all the way down

Hope this helps

Robbgt, thanks a million! It took a few tries but I finally got it today. The bottom seat being lifted along with that roll bar thing in a certain spot is what I wasn’t doing correctly. Thanks again and that’s why this site rocks.

hey@Robbgt, how do you get that keyring to stay on the dowel? I had my 2020 folded today, and I cant' figure that out. rest of the latch looks the same. So much to figure out on this truck.

I drilled a hole through the dowel, pic:

Oh you drilled a hole. That makes total sense. if I ever unlatch that again, maybe I'll remember to do the same. Neat idea.

That was the first mod, if you can call it that that I did. A lot of storage back there. At least in a super crew without the amp.
I added a little silicone lube to slide bar on mine and it helped a lot for re-latching.

I was having the same problem. I was almost to the point of grinding metal and plastic down to get it to catch. Glad I read the responses in this post. My sweet spot was to raise the dowel to “almost” the very top of the dowel bracket. I lifted the lower portion of the seat (the one you put ur butt on) all the way up, ensure the latch was open, and slammed it, and it worked! They need to come out with a better aftermarket latch. SMH, seems like all auto manufacturers use the crappiest parts just to get them out on the market, well maybe not Toyota. Still aggravates me to no end that Toyota still doesn’t offer US & Canada a 1 ton diesel dually crew cab.😡
