Racetec 1.71 flat tops, 70cc heads, molnar rods, scorpion rockers, price adapters, and weiand xcellerator intake. Followed by a c6 and 3.50 gear w 31spl axles and a spicer full spool
i bought this about a month ago btw... Havent fired parts cannon YET still want to get fuel sending unit in it and source some headers
72 LTD ? If so that thing weighs close to 2 tons. I've had a 67 and a 68 and you're going to need some bottom end torque and a lot of it. I would be looking at a 460 if it were mine. I don't think you will be happy with that cam in something that heavy.
Did some hunting and even opening up a weiand 8010 wouldnt be enough intake... So i ordered the price motorsport intake spacers for 351c. Got a weiand xcellerator on the way now good to 7000 lol. Any ideas on where a hood might be? I can lift this one maybe half an inch... But i really donnt want to cut it for clearance.
Two words. PISTON SPEED. Turning a 400 with a 4" stroke creates a lot of piston speed, let alone windage. Your not going to get 7k out of a 400 easy, even with a manifold designed for a 351c at 7k. At 6k with a 4" stroke your at 4000fps, a 351C at 7k has 4083fps. SO if the manifold is designed for 7k with a 351C, than its good for about 6k with a 400. Also the stress on the rod and piston increases with piston speed and so does friction etc. Not saying you can't turn 7k, just that there are a few things to consider.
I only remember a few 400's HONESTLY turning more than 6k, . One is Shazam and he had a **** ton of stuff done to do it, just search his name, the others alude my mind right now. Most dyno's I see for the 400, even 600+ HP are turning less than 6k. You just don't need to spin a 400 to get gobs of torque and power. It just takes a solid build. Good head's, matched cam and intake with a solid bottom end. I would run the Weind dual plane and gasket match the port to the heads. I just gasket matched my TFS 195 Powerport heads and Weind manifold on my 400 and the ports ended up at 2.01" height and 1.4" width. Remember Tim ran the Weind on a TFS headed 400 and got 503-507HP and 473-475TQ. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...shoot-out.html
Did some reading on Shazam's build... Adding more to list for parts cannon, also called Moldex for a crank to handle all this. Smog pump converted to vac pump (79 pickup donor), arp fasteners, girdles for both valley and bottom end.
Has anyone used this in a 400 yet? If so how did yall like it?
I would steer clear of a company that lists this for a "300M" I do hope you know what you're trying to do before buying all these parts. It's not going to be streetable. You'll need more gear in the rear too. Love the choice of car though. Missed out on one like it in the 80's with a 429.

Back in the '70's a fellow high school student drove one of those style years of convertible LTD to school. It was loud, rowdy sounding, bright red with a black interior and top, Cragar S/S wheels, real wide rear tires. It was a 4 speed car too. Weather or not someone put that in there who knows now, but it sure looked cool with a Hurst T handle sticking up in there. That thing was damn cool ! Wonder what ever happened to that car.

They used two 4 door cars in Burt Reynold's movie "White Lightning" one was a 4 speed, both had 429SCJ's under the hoods. A friend in high school had a 71 2 dr with a 400. We out ran more cars with that 400 than you'd believe. And because of this car, when we ran across a 400 4 bbl motor sitting in a junkyard, it got burned into my mind when I saw that motor sitting in the motor room there.
