It was a video from a Ford tech he said not to use Mercon V in an older transfer case. He said it states it on the back of the bottles. They were told not to use it in older trucks anymore. He never said what they use instead but said they have bottles of transfer case fluid there on the shelves at the dealers. lol ???
Ford doesn't license the Mercon name anymore, but every auto parts store and gas station has Mercon. It's the exact same formulation but isn't licensed by Ford. Don't screw around with getting universal atf and just buy the Mercon.
I use the cheap stuff, but I don't beat the crap out of my truck - 10K miles on Wally juice and it shifts fine. In a few other trucks I had where I wheeled a lot I used the high quality stuff.
