I have a 2000 E-350 with a 5.4l. with a Grummand Olsen body. I was driving the other day and it just stalled on me like i just shut off the key. I tried restarting it but it would just crank over and not fire. When i turned the key on, the fuel pump relay would be rapidly clicking and the fuel pump pulsating with the clicking of the relay. Now the relay is not clicking when i turn the key, checked the relay and it is working fine. Also the fuse is good. If i jump the relay, the fuel pump clicks on but no fire when i try turning it over. also will not start or even try to on ether. Not sure where to turn from here, possibly PCM ?? or maybe a grounding issue. Any help on where to check or look would be very much appreciated.
I would try giving it a shot of carb cleaner through the the air intake. If you it fires up briefly then you know you have a fuel delivery issue. More than likely it's the fuel pump.
Have you checked the inertia switch, should be passenger kick panel black box. Lil red button on top, should be up. Also check fuel pressure, could have a regulator going out. They need alot of fuel pressure to run, even 5 lbs low and it wont start.
just an update. the fuel pump relay is now fast clicking non stop when i turn on the key and so is the iac. going tomorrow to check out the iac. has anyone had this issue before? and when i try to use a scan tool, it comes up as "link error". it has always worked with this vehicle and it does work on other vehicles so it isnt the scan tool.
The "link error" message occurs typically when the scanner cannot read the PCM throiugh the DLC. Check the DLC for broken or chaffed wires, make sure there is 12 VDC available at the corresponding pin on the DLC. If the 12 VDC isn't present fix that first then resume using the scanner.
Not sure which EVTM would fit your step van but most likely the year the chassis was built would be close enough. Usually your van would be classified as a cutaway cab/chassis but with the full Grumman/Olsen body that might not be the case. If nothing else contact Grumman/Olsen to get their input wihch Ford EVTM would apply to your serial number.
