So I threw some long tube headers on my 73. It has a manual trans. The headers clear the clutch linkage just fine. BUT...the loooong spring that hooks to the clutch fork that runs up towards the front of the truck rubs hard against a couple of the primaries on the driver side header. Any body run into this...and what was the fix? Not too many other places I can run the spring to.
I have not seen that exact issue, but I run fenderwell headers on my 1979 4spd truck. Any chance those headers are for an auto only? Do they make a set for a manual only trans that is different? If you can not move the spring attachment bracket to change the angle, then you will probably have to "clearance" the header contact point. You mean this spring right?

I simply drilled a new hole on the cross member out closer to the frame, same spring tension just directed it in a slightly different angle.

That 90 degree bracket is a good idea maybe pulling at a slightly different angle than what I have now. I’m may have to fab one up coming off the cross member where it hooks up now. Thanks for the ideas gentlemen
I had the same problem with the spring. I used flowtech headers. I actually ended up breaking the spring that was on the truck and had to jerryriging a new spring set up to get rolling again. DId you have to remove your clutch linkage to get the drive side header in. I tried many different ways to get that header in without pulling the linkage and finally had to do it. Oh and I scratched up my freshly primed, painted and baked headers in the process. Throw on top of that having to drill out some header bolts that broke off and it was not a fun project. Worth it in the end though.
After I hooked up the cherry picker, took both motor mounts off the block then lifted up the engine as high as I could, everything slid in ok. I did scrape up the passenger side header pretty good though before I jacked the engine up all the way. Pretty tight fit!
