Here's the illustration from the Ford parts catalog. Unfortunately it's not too clear on the front spring attach point.
It "looks" like 2WD hooks to frame or cross member and the 4WD hooks to a bracket bolted to the frame.
Yeah, I have that illustration, and yeah, it's not helpful at all. I searched a bunch, but only found either F350s or 4x4s.. Neither of which help me.
The thing is, FoMoCo didn't offer the 460 with a M/T (or 4WD) until 1983 (F250/350 only) and thru 1997, all came with a hydraulic clutch.
.
No 460's in F100's after 1976, no 460's in F150's after 1979.
However, I keep hearing about a mystical "hole in the frame" that everyone seems to use, but no one has a picture of. Since my frame was pre-drilled and had the mounting nuts for the equalizer bar bracket, I figured it'd be safe to assume the frame had a home for the clutch fork spring.
Soo.. where's it go on a 351M 2wd, 302 2wd, etc etc?

4WD spring attaches to bracket / 2WD spring hooks into hole in frame rail. Since your truck originally was 302/C4, there will be no hole in the frame rail.
