Thoughts on trading?

I currently have a 2017 F250 Lariat 6.2L 3.73 gears with 25,000 miles, but found this 2018 F350 XLT 6.7L with 80,000 miles on it. I tow a 40 ft 5th wheel a few times a year. The gas burner does ok pulling and great the rest of the year, just trying to decide between the pros and cons. Coming from a Ram 6.7L, I kinda miss a diesel and starting to like the looks of a dually. Your thoughts?

If you can afford it, need/want it then get it. Pretty truck! If there are good service records on it then 80k miles is nothing

You are going to spend A LOT of money just for a few trips a year? You said it does great the rest of the year. Your current truck works. Use it.

2 extra tires to buy (and they don't look cheap...what are those, 22's?), diesel is more expensive, DEF, maintenance is more expensive, fuel filters to buy, etc....
80k miles is A LOT for a 1-year old truck. Just think...no warranty soon on a new emissions equipped diesel truck = $$$$$$$$$$$$

Shoot...the F350 doesn't even have fog lights. That's a deal breaker right there!

Just my opinion though...

(I also came from a 6.7L Cummins)

Make the jump to the dually! I moved from an 06 F350 Sb KR to a 2015 F350 DRW KR and would never go back to the SRW. Around town you just have to get used to parking a little further back. No comparison towing.

I just saw your said your truck has 3.73's. Swap to 4.30's or 4.56's and that 40-foot camper will feel like a 28-footer

...be a lot cheaper too!

You said you had a 5th wheel, the size of tires on the dually and the lift (I think?) are going to make that difficult, so you would have the cost of lowering it back to stock for good fifth wheel towing. I tow mine with a 2019 F350 and lowered it from stock to get more clearance between the side walls of the bed and the fifth wheel.

If you are going to get a truck to pull with, I think you can do better than that 350. As ncitro said, the height of that truck will make using your fifth wheel tight with clearances. 80k on a 1 1/2 old truck at the most, is a lot of miles.

I appreciate the feedback. It does have 22’s and leveling kit on the front. The rear end measured 1” higher than my F250. The creature comforts of the Lariat and the miles on the XLT have kept me from pulling the trigger up to this point. Logically it does make more since to stay with the F250 and is probably what I will end up doing, I just kinda like the looks and power of the F350.

I would definitely tell you my 350 6.7 pulls like a dream, and I am sure a dual lay would be even better, I would just keep looking for a better fit.

With 22” rims and rubberband tires it is going to ride like chit! Strictly eye candy.......useless otherwise!
The dually/ 6.7 combo would be great with a 40 ft 5er otherwise.

I think you're leaning in the right direction for now. I'd stay the course for now and look for a diesel sometime down the road if you're still inclined. The timing is all up to you.
That 350 with those miles and the things done to it by the previous owner always make me wonder why they swapped in a 1 model year old truck. Will you be getting the previous guy's headaches?
I've been considering a diesel for the next go round myself. But for pulling a 7x18 enclosed loaded with a seamless gutter business good for 5-6k pounds around for 6-7 months of the year and one annual 2400 mile round trip vacation pulling a twin to my gutter trailer loaded with 4 motorcycles, tools, luggage, etc. makes it hard to justify the $9100 premium for the 6.7. And as has been stated, diesel is at least 20 cents a gallon more than gas in my area along with the added maintenance, DEF, etc. costs.
