engine swap and wont start

I have an early 99 7.3PSD. I removed the engine that was not running and installed an engine out of a 2001 7.3PSD. I also installed the IDM and the PCM out of the 2001 model thinking they should stay with the engine. The 2001 engine was running and I kept all the engine wiring with it when I changed it over. The engine turns over very good but will not fire. When I try to run a buzz test now I get nothing. Do I need to put the '99 modules back in or should it work like it is?

It should work (WILL WORK if everything is functioning correctly).

First things first.....
Do you have a "WAIT TO START" lamp?

No I am not getting a WTS lamp. I hadn't even noticed that.

Check fuse #30 under the dash, if it's blown disconnect the fuel bowl heater, replace fuse and try again.

I already disconnected the fuel bowl heater. I will check the fuse and replace if necessary when I get home this afternoon. Thanks for the direction of where to look.

Didn't happen to do anything funky with the glow plug relay did you?

Well I found the issue. I checked fuse #30 and it was good. I replaced it just for good measure though. That was not the issue. I had help doing this engine swap and since I work in IT my theory is always go back to the last thing you changed. I started checking all the components that we had changed. When I got to the PCM I found that the plug going into it was loose. The plastic around the bolt that holds it in had broken and was not holding it in tight enough. I fashioned a spacer to put around the bolt and screwed it up tight and everything started working. Thanks for the suggestion about the WTS light and the fuse because that is what got me thinking we just weren't communicating with the PCM and that is how I found it.
This forum is great. I come here every day just to keep up with what can be done with these trucks.

And another success story today, congrats. And now you can drive your shiny new engine around.
