I have a 93 ranger 2.3.the check engine light has been on for a very long time.It ran decent until the last few weeks. At highway speeds it runs fine,At idle it lopes, surges, missfires, when taking off in first gear I have to rpm it up and feather the gas and clutch or it will spit, sputter and pop till it picks up speed.Truck has become almost undrivable.I have pulled the plugs and they are a nice tan color. I hooked my snap on red brick to it and it reads code 224. Also I conducted a wiggle test on it.The primary resistance on the coils was 1.0,the secondary resistance is around 13 give or take, no drastic differences.my scanner shows a steady increase in voltage during acceleration of the MAF, I’ve had the ICM tested a couple months ago showed good.my scanner says C/T for the TPS,( don’t know what that means)TP voltage is .86. IAC idle air is at 35% voltage of 3.5.Spark advance is erratic anywhere from 5-20 degrees.possibly cause it’s surging?EVP 1.30 volts,EVR .0%? BOO is off and I found no values for the O/2 the truck is emits a NOX smell.I’ve thoroughly cleaned the IAC and the throttle body. I need to get this truck fixed it’s my daily.I drive 1000 miles a week and my other truck is a hemi and killing me on fuel😀
It's been a while since I've seen a post regarding that code. If you do a search of previous posts/threads in this forum, you will find a decent amount of discussion on it (and related codes). Here is a sample: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-224-help.html (Note that the ICM also tested out OK; also note heat transfer paste).
