Has anyone tried using two 3" inlet K&N cones instead of the FIPK replacement filter? I'm not opposed to the dual inlet filter, it's just easier to find the 3" locally and I assume the adapter pipes would be easier to do, as well. Just an idea...
Also, on some of folks pics of the long, dual tubing, I see some are like mine with ribs every 3" or so and some are smooth like radiator hose. Is this just a different year model thing, or are the smooth ones custom?
I would be interested in this mod as well. It would keep my wallet from getting a lot lighter if I only had to buy to cones as opposed to the dual cone setup. I would also assume it would flow better with more surface area on the cones. I will get back with any info I can find on it.
I've seen the threads on the homebuilt setup using the FIPK replacement filter and think it's a great alternative to the $211 kit, it just struck me that since there are two tubes, there could be two filters. SLP does this on their air intake for '93-97 Z28s and it works pretty well.
