Factory Fresh Air Intake

5/29 4:51p
I've looked at the K&N filter kit for my '95 F150\5.0, and being the cheapskate that I am, decided that $100.00 was just too much to pay for something of questionable value,( the filter is OK, but the tubing - $100.00, you got to be kidding) I did a little research, and discovered that a '93 F250 with a 460 had an inlet that pulls air from beside the radiator, directly from behind the grille, whereas the stock inlet takes air from above the radiator support. Upon further investagation, ( I went to a used car lot on the pretext of buying a F250 P/U), I took some measurements of the F250 inlet, and then compared them to my F150 inlet. All the critical demensions matched! I then went to a local JY to get the air inlet, well the JY wanted $75.00 for the air cleaner assembly, and wouldn't just sell me the inlet tube. A trip to my local Ford store, and I scored the inlet tube, brand new, for a little over $18.00. Getting the inlet tube home, I measured the opening, the F250 inlet has 12.5 sq inches of opening, and my original F150 has 9.75 sq in of opening, also the original has to draw its air from between the hood and the grille, a restrictive 1/4" opening on my truck. This thing is a drop in, the hole is even provided in the radiator support of the fresh air intake. Another cool thing about it is that it is a factory part, and you shouldn't get any grief from the smog *****. The Ford P/N for the inlet is: F3TZ-9A675-B.

So this goes from the air filter box to the core support by the radiator? That would be realy cool (no pun intended) since the previous owner removed that hose from my truck.

Yes, as long as it is a fuel injected 460 or 5.0, it will fit.

John,
Do I only need that one part? Or do I need a hose too? I often wondered about that space there on the side of the rad. Thanks for the info. I'll track one of those down and get a drop in K&N filter and hopefully pickup some MPG.

Thanks,

John

Yes, it's one piece. Goes from the filter box to the rad support. Here's a photo before I installed it.

Do the 5.0's and 7.5's have a different air filter box than the 5.8's, or what is the reason it won't work?

The filter top is different between the 5.0 and the 7.5L. I don't know about the box itself. Nor have I seen a 5.8L filter box. If the rectangular opening on the side of the box for the fresh air inlet measures approxmately 2 1/4 X 6 1/2" The 7.5Lfresh air inlet inlet should work. Here is a drawing of the 7.5L air inlet system. If your lower box looks similar to this, it should work.
