that's not the issue....with door closed the truck will not start with out brake engagement , regardless of the bottom press technique used. demonstrated in the video. key point with door closed you always get the press brake to start banner
with door open, you can start the truck with out tapping the brake using any button technique. as demonstrated in the video. key point with door open you never get the press brake to start banner
so yes, I need to put this on a gig list and have them check it...and in the mean time...keep the door closed if I want to prime the fuel system.
To make sure the horse is dead... Did you hold the button or press it in the video with the door open?

I will do a new video with this request and announce if...I tap the button and when I hold the button. But, I don't think this is relevant to the brake taping not being needed if the door is open vs if the door is closed. the vehicle starts with door open and does not with door closed unless the brakes are tapped.
This seems like its working as intended to me. With the door closed you are ready to hit the road, so tap the brakes and tap the go button and be on your way. With the door open you or a FoMoCo mechanic is probably working on the truck or you just want to reach in and start it up to warm up the engine. You are obviously not ready to hit the road, so it'll let you start the engine if you purposely hold the button, rather than just tapping it like you usually do.

Your statement in bold is correct, but it needs an asterisk. I think you are getting so much prompt attention because I suspect that most pushbutton start owners do not hold down the start button ever. I bought my 450 in Jan 2017 and have 33kmi on it, and in all that time I have never held down the PTS button. Always press and release, and truck starts when it is ready. Holding it down never crossed my mind, so when I hear your are holding it down, it is a foreign action to me. It sounds like for you, holding the button down until it starts is normal, so naturally this would be an unexpected start. With the door open, if you reach in and press and release the button, it will not start. I have now learned from your experience that if you hold the button down with the door open, it will start. Cool feature. To achieve the same while standing outside the truck I have always just depressed the brake pedal with my left hand and press the start with my right. I'm glad you posted about this so I can avoid an inattentive long hold of the button after draining or changing fuel filters. Please understand that for those of us that have never actually held down the button, that behavior never crossed our minds.

You have some other opinions on the matter here but I will say the the "hold" or "press" very much matters in regards to the operation characteristics you are describing with the door open.

If you think it’s a problem take it in. I’m pretty confident you’ve found a massive super duty wide issue, or Fords gonna “ yup, we intended to have it do that”. My money is on it working properly.
Apparently everyone else can replicate this problem, but we all have never held the button down before.
I think ink it’s just a feature, safety if you will, that they program a certain sequence to start it or get it to accessory mode.
Have you opened the door and pushed the button once and not held it? You hold it down everytime in the video so leads me to believe it’s a habit.
I’m happy to have found out I can prime it with a tap or start it holding it down by reach in andnot having to climb into the seat... which likely has a sensor to ensure someone is in the seat before they can in advertantly tap the button and start the truck.
Thanks to the OP! what you see as a problem, I see as a nifty trick that i will use almost daily. I start my truck door open standing outside all the time! It's very awkward to hold the brake pedal down & hit the start button, so now I know I can just hold the start button for a few seconds with the door open & it will fire up! #winning
