6.0l small squeak on cold start

I've got a 2004 f250 with a 6.0l, and 164k miles on it. Thing runs great, but on a cold start, usually 10 seconds or so later, I'll hear a squeak from the engine, just one squeak, then it stops ,never been able to figure where it was coming from.

I say squeak, but maybe whine would better describe it.

In any case, where could I begin to diagnose this noise?

Hood up, get someone to fire it up. ATA guess it's the Serpentine belt when the load increases, presumably the airco. I hear the load switch in but a squeak only when i switch the motor off.

If that's the noise, it's your turbo vanes sticking. You'll need to pull the turbo and clean the exhaust side, maybe replace the unison ring (you'll only know once you get it apart).

That's exactly the noise! Thanks for that, also explains the underboost code I saw yesterday.

So.....since I'll be pulling the turbo, is there any way to prevent the issue in the future? Aftermarket turbo wheels? etc?

Was driving the truck today. It would work fine, but then or would start lacking power on the freeway.

Was only building 1-2 psi of boost cruising where 8-9 was typical, and the vgt duty cycle was at 85% while cruising.

Also, the egts were about 1k cruising at 75.

Going to pull and clean the turbo in the morning. Figure to check and clean the EBP sensor and MAP port while I'm there.

Anybody ever seen a v band clamp welded to the down pipe? Making pulling this turbo really annoying.

Spray wd40 or some type of lube let sit then use a long flat blade screwdriver or pry bar and smack the clamp.

I’ve found PB Blaster helps out. Each of the different 6.0 trucks I’ve worked on that clamp has been a pain, along with the y-pipe clamp on several of them.

And I definitely agree with the poster above about also using a long flat blade screwdriver or prybar!

Thanks for the replies.

I got the turbo out, cleaned, and back in. Trucks running great so far, and now I only have a 1000 code to look into. That's a new one.

Don’t worry about that code, it just means the emission test cycle hasn’t completed yet, I assume you cleared codes? It will go away after driving a bit

I didnt clear the codes before test firing, but disconnecting the batteries seems to have done it.

Started up with a kam code and a p1000. cleared those and test drove, only the p1000 came back.

P1000 means the PCM software has not experienced all the different operating conditions to test if everything is working correctly and make adjustments for optimal driving. When it has completed all of them, the code turns off.

If there is a out of normal conditions event, the check engine light will turn on.
