I had to replace that small 6" piece of rubber fuel line that's under the cab just below the drivers door. It's the one that connects the two hard lines, from the fuel tank to the fuel pump.
I replaced it 20 years ago when I first got the truck and it started leaking again. Both times I just bought over the counter 3/8" fuel line.
Is there a better option? That hose is out there exposed to the elements. I was just wondering if there's something better suited for those conditions.
I mentioned this in another thread, Gates makes a multi-fuel "Barricade" line of fuel hose, rated for fuel injection pressures. Could try that. Conventional fuel hose should probably be replaced every 3 or 4 years. It's easy to overlook.
It did go 20, and you're right. Real easy to overlook. I've been wondering why I can't keep gas in this rig. Probably been leaking for over a year. I remember someone borrowing it last summer and saying "your truck smells like gas." I just thought it was the carb.
Turns out it's the damn hose. It was cracked on it's entire length. I was lucky it didn't just fail.
From what I'm reading,it sounds like silicone be a better option? Has anyone used silicone fuel hose? It's not cheap.
A $0.75 piece of hose lasted 20 years and that's not good enough for you? Just replace it every 5 or even 10 from now on. How many more years are you going to have it?
Some fuel hose is better than others. This is when it's better maybe to purchase from those vendors who cater and sell to carburetor and tuning enthusiasts. They kind of get a sense of what products hold up better. Those el-cheapo carb port caps fail in weeks or months, if the hose is the same cheap rubber, the parts just cause problems. Regular fuel hose works OK if it's the genuine stuff.

I'd say 20 years out of a rubber hose is a success story.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. I'm not sure how long it's been leaking. I am sure it's been leaking for at least a year. All this time I couldn't figure out why I burnt through so much gas. I've probably lost a couple hundred bucks in gas without knowing.
$5 for 8" of hose would sure have paid for itself it lasted forever. It's what they say about silicone.
