I Want it But Can't Have It

Inspired by the recent post asking what you like the most about your F150, here's a slightly different question.

What option do you wish you could have on your truck but can't? I'm NOT talking about the option that's only available as part of a zillion dollar option package or only available on top trim level trucks. I mean an option that just simply is not offered by Ford as a factory option but you wish it was. Even something that would not be practical to do as an after market upgrade.

What do you want?

I would like to be able to turn the backup camera on when the truck is not in reverse. On my van, you can hit the mode button on the radio display and turn the camera on to look at your hitch, etc. It would be nice to be able to do the same on this F150.

That is exactly the first thing (backup camera when not backing up) that came to mind for me as well. Some trucks that I've seen allow you to turn on the backup camera for 10 seconds or something like that. That would be a fantastic feature, especially when you're pulling a trailer.

I also think the tailgate damper should be standard equipment.

I'd like the front camera to come on automatically at speeds under 10 mph .. I'd also like the side cameras to come on, and stay on as long as the turn signal is activated.

Maybe not what you are thinking, OP, but I wonder why Ford (and the others) don't offer a properly-designed and fitted canopy (read "cap" or "camper top" depending...) instead of leaving it to the aftermarket to adapt a shell with a goofy rear door setup to try to cover the huge tailgate.

I'm guessing because if you look at the after market, there are more options available for a cap or camper top than there are for the truck itself. Ford would need an additional plant just to manufacture them. Cheaper to leave some things to the aftermarket. Even the hard, folding tonneau cover I ordered on my truck is just a Ford re-badged X-Tang cover. Same price as the aftermarket so I figured let them install it and it falls under the Ford warranty.

A track tie down system instead of the BoxLink, which aren’t much use at all. I’m surprised that the aftermarket didn’t develop accessories to adapt to the BoxLink mounting points.

A factory 2” suspension system either as an option or part of the FX4 package.

Right - what I had in mind was a collaboration between an existing manufacturer and Ford, to design something that works properly, but sold and warrantied through Ford. To be sold and warrantied through Ford it would have to be better than what is out there now.

Right now, the inside of my truck box, and everything in it, is white with the salt dust and other dust that gets sucked in after a winter of tons of salt on the roads, followed by a few dry days.

Personally, although it was offered on the truck, I don't really understand why the reverse sensor system was a separate package instead of being bundled with the rear camera. Seems kinda dumb.

That was apparently something Ford decided on after the '15 MY as my '15 XLT came with it as one option. There are some on this forum that think the reverse sensor is redundant and unnecessary. I don't agree. While backing, one is not always looking at the rear camera.

While I don't have nav, it would be nice if Ford would provide updated maps for either zero cost or at least a reasonable cost.
