I went in and spoke with my dealership last Friday. Ford still hasn't issued the VIN!!! They estimated I am still 4-6 weeks out from delivery. It has already been 7 weeks since order was placed. Longer order time than I thought (and was told at time of purchase). My dealer really looked in the system (reason I went in because I thought they were busy and not taking the time to really look). Waiting kind of stinks, but oh well.
My dealer ordered my lariat sport on 3/25 and they stated at that time that historically custom orders had a lead time of 6-8 weeks. Last week they let me know that the estimated delivery date is scheduled for 5/6, so pretty much exactly 6 weeks. We’ll see....I’m in central Ohio by the way.
I don't believe that anyone at Ford corporate is rushing anything. Builds are early and late due to two things: 1) the dealership didn't really submit the order when it said it would/did (people get busy, lots of deals, a form didn't get submitted) and 2) there is a complex system where certain builds can get delayed for parts. Despite what we might think, Ford doesn't have a bottomless pit of the 387,142 components used to build a truck. Someone did a really nice write-up to see how builds are allocated ... and how a given build can really suffer for lack of priority if things break the wrong way.
I've read a lot of these threads and see no correlation between issues and beating OTD.
My delivery was early based really after the actual production process date. Logistics and delivery appeared to take far less time than was estimated and probably has a little something to do with the fact I'm in the Motor City which is also only 5 hours from Kentucky.
