Just heard from my dealer today.. Order #0081, Build Date is Nov 3. Vin: 1FDAX57P74EB44858 Anything anyone can tell me from this information? Been waiting for this F550 forever! Can we run the vin through OASIS to se what comes back? Thanks,
bsponseller- You may find info at www.fleet.ford.com since you have an order #. How long have you been waiting? It's not unusual for med. size chasis to take a while to get built. It's the way they are scheduled in that plant. Did you order thru a car/lt. truck dealer or a Ford heavy dealer ? You also have a VIN# which is a good sign but a VIN is assigned when the chasis put in line for assembly....Good Luck

I originally ordered the truck in September, but then put the order on hold until I felt all the engine issues had been resolved. The actual order went in two weeks ago. I ordered the truck through a Ford Fleet dealer. I'll check the fleet.ford and see what I can find. Thanks for your reply.
bsponseller: What are the engine spec's on the F550 6L. Are they the same as the F350's. I ma not familuar whit the spec's. Just wandered how close to our VT365 they were. Since this si closer to a mid size truck just looking at workablity of the Ford engine compaired to ours.
As far as I know, the engine specs are the same as as an F350. A 6.0 PSD is the same for both. However, you are probably going to get a lot better mileage with your rig. The F550 has a 4.88 rear end, instead of the 3.73 or 4.10 available with the 350. Going to suffer mileage, but needed the payload capacity. There is always a trade off. The 19.5 wheels help somewhat, but are mainly designed to accomadate bigger brakes, not necessarly larger tire size. I may look into larger diameter tires later down the road if I don't have to do any modification or change wheel size.

What GVW is the truck rated at. 19.5 wheels are used ,as you say to accomodate larger brakes but also to maintain a lo profile chasis. You may be able to up grade to 22.5 but you will have to watch carefully for wheel clerance problems on the front. What trans did you opt for and what are you hauling?
GVWR is 17,500 Payload 10,400
Manual 6-speed 4x4 Supercab Lariet w/Roll a Long Pickup Bed
Carrying a Lance 1121 Camper (about 4500lb) and towing a Chev S-10 P/U (2800)
bsponseller: If you get a chance to look at the eng spec's let me know what you find. Rumor has it that it is the same as our IH engine.........But you have a strong puller and you should be REAL happy with you package.
Just compared engine specs for both F350 6.0 and F550 6.0. Both are identical to each other. Bore 3.74"; Stroke 4.13"; Compression ration 18.0:1; 325 hp @ 3300; 560 lb@2000. Injection systems, induction, etc. all identical.
Since the F-550's do not come standard with a pick-up bed, the "roll along" bed was the added on pick up box. (Thats just my guess, but probably am right) The F-550's come with a frame from the factory, and you pick the options you want on the truck. (tow truck, dump body, etc.) I think the F-450's come with a pick-up bed now, but I may be wrong on that one.
My 2002 450 4X4 came from the factory as just a cab/chassis. The bed was ordered and installed by the dealer (Parkway Ford in Winston Salem, NC). The bed is just a little longer than the factory bed to make up for the slightly longer chassis. The bed came from Manning in Kentucky. The running boards are also semi-custom pieces. They were made a bit longer to fit the length of the bed. Here are some links of interest....
The F450/550's are available with the same options as the F350, less the bed. Ford does not manufacture a pickup you buy the Cab and chasiss, have an after market bed installed. Roll a Long is under contract with Ford and they make a number of different types of conversions. The F450/550 is 4 inches longer from the back of cab to rear axle. The bed I bought has a 4" molded extension at the front of a stock ford bed. So when it is mounted on the frame it sits in proper relation to the rear duals.
When its done, it resembles an F350 (on steroids).
The particular truck I ordered is a Lariet; supercab; 4x4; 6 spd manual; all otions including leather and heated seats; dual alternators; 40/20/40; 4.88 LS; 19.5 polished wheels; Didn't have the option of power rear window at the time. Since build date is Nov 3, maybe it will come with one. Who knows? Anyway, I don't think F450/550 are available in the HD or KR.
