I have a 2002 f150 supercab with a 4.2 V6 and 4 spd auto with a 3.55 rear end.
Eventually I,d like to tow a small fifthwheel with this truck but in the mean time enjoy the economy of the v6. I'd like to hear from anyone who has any experiance towing with a similar setup.
My ranger is rated to tow more legally than your f150.
yours is 5500 mine is 5600
You would be hard pressed to find a 5th wheel that small.
Esp since you have to consider your payload. The pin weight should be about 20-25% of the 5th wheel. And your payload is reduced by your passengers and gear in the truck.

Thanks for the info. dtpatt2, thats what I was after, peoples experiances, rather than opinions and figures as in the previous post. I,ve already checked the figures as to weights and what's legal just wanting to know what people have found having used this type of vehicle for towing.
Yeah, I've seen a lot of casita's(5er model) and scampers being pulled by even Ford Rangers. You can definitely find something within that range, some of those are 17ft long. I originally wanted a 5er, but opted for a TT.
25% of the wieght of a 5er is pin wieght. With just the 10-15% of the TT toungue being on my truck, I didn't want to go over my GVWR. I carry a lot of tools that add up quickly, and when my wifey and child are in, full of fuel, I'm right at my limit. With a 5er, I'd be over.
That being one reason, but the main reason being I got a great deal on my trailer, father in law's boss who just wanted to get rid of it. 1996 24ft WIldwood (by Rockwood) immaculate! They only used it 3 times, never cooked in it. Came with a nice WD hitch and 5k generator for $5k. Couldn't pass it up.
He opted for a TT because he knew what i posted.. The post you didnt like (Hint: the first reply to this thread)
Seriously though, there is no real reason to get a 5th wheel for a trailer that light and some serious disadvantages.
