08 4.2 V-6
was wondering if the 4.2 V-6 is a design all of its own or a chopped down 351 or 302 like chevy does with the 4.3? I know i should have gotten the V-8 but what i normally tow a 1/2 ton cant do safely so i got it just to drive to work and back (300-400 miles) pleased with the truck. it has some (not much) YEE-HAW to it.

I also have a V6 F150. The 4.2 is based on a V6 family which has been in several Fords. It is not related to any V8 design as far as I know. As I understand it, the code name for the engine is Essex and it was built in Canada.
There is a V6 forum elsewhere in FTE and you will find some more information there. The early ones had issues with head gaskets, but those problems were well sorted out by the time ours were built.
