Thanks,those numbers are higher than I thought.I have the chance to buy a 97 s/c w/70k miles on it for $5500.I`m kind of scared of that 4.2 though.Do you guys think I should get a 95-96 with a 300 I6 instead?I will be towing a 4k lb boat 300 miles round trip 2x a month and durability/reliability is a must.
If i was gona buy a 6, id buy a I6. Had a 97 with man/v6, it was ok until you put any load on it. I would recomend an I6 with tow package. Very reliable, and lots of low end torque.

My old 77 I6 towed small trailers nicely. I would imagine with fuel injection it just got better
Well today I bought a 96 f150 with a 300 I6 and auto trans.The problems with the 4.2 seem to be too many for me.Radars numbers are correct for a manual trans behind a 300 I6 eventhough most people on here tow ALOT more with their man trans.John the numbers you gave above are for an auto trans equipped 4.2. BTW what rear gear is an axle code 18?
