I am looking for a starter for my truck. It has a 429 in it, with a t-18 behind it.
The parts stores don't have different starters for auto/ manual.
Does anyone have a cross reference for this starter?
D2AF-11131-DA
I have a bunch I have pulled over the years. The auto one is a little shorter on the snout. The standard one is a hair longer. Napa only has one and it is the length of the automatic one.
No such thing as a 429 manual trans starter, A/T & M/T are the same and it's also the same starter as a 460. ALL 1968/82 460's came with the C6.
.
Some 429/460 starters had the starter solenoid mounted on them. You do not want this type.
Here's the starter application chart for 1972 cars. Notice there's no 429 A/T or M/T starter listed, which means both are the same.
Edit: Notice that D2AF-11001-DA is a 302/351W M/T starter. I couldn't find D2AF-11131-DA
Thanks. I was told many years ago when I started working on these engines there were two starters. I have written on the front of my box;
4 spd 2 1/4"
Auto. 2"
That is the measurement from the mounting flange to the farthest part the gear extends out.
The reason why was the flywheel is thicker than a flex plate and had required a farther reach. Made sense at the time
I have put them on these trucks that way and has always worked. I will try a starter from Napa and see if it works.
