You can plug it in to the USB port in the center console and leave it inside that cubby. With Apple CarPLay you will get phone, maps, music and even Whatsapp on the Sync screen.
I'm wondering how people store there cell phones. I have found the cubbys suck. Where you can charge it you can't get to it. I have resorted to cup holder or the top of the dash, neither of which is great.
Any great solutions?
Scott
It takes a little work but run the cable from the cubbyhole, under the console, and then into the huge armrest by drilling a hole large enough to pass the other end of the cable through.
A car audio can make short work of this in no time.
I typically just leave it in my pocket. If I do have to pull it out, it goes in a cup holder till I reach my destination, and then back in the pocket. If I'm on a long trip, and it needs to be charged while driving, then I plug in the cable, and it goes upside in the cup holder.
I'm trying avoid the cup holder. I want to use it for... well cups.
I bought a 6" cable for my iPhone X. Plug it into the USB in front area, drop the phone in that cubby and close the door. Apple Car Play takes over and while it's not perfect, it's close enough. Some apps can be a little annoying, but it's an absolute exercise in discipline to not reach for it. Prior to this on my '08 F150 and a Jeep, I used a Quad Lock windshield mount that I put over on far left by the pillar and ran a long cable behind/through my dash into the USB port. My QuadLock case has the adapters for my mountain bike, running arm band, etc., hence having gone with that one, but it was also the only one I could find that didn't bounce too much (especially in the Jeep). But with this new truck and Apple Car Play, I love just plugging in that little cable and closing the cover in that front cubby. Keeps me from messing with it while driving.
All joking aside on where to put your phone all depends on what it's doing. I have a vent mounted cell phone holder that sits directly to the right of the column shifter and facing me. My 2017 XLT came with SYNC and allows me to use that display for phone, maps, music, etc. I really don't need to see my phone unless it's something not available through SYNC. For me, if my bluetooth is working for hands free talking and there's a Google map displayed on the SYNC console screen - I'm set. If I just want to charge the phone, plug in a cable and store it anywhere that suits you. Lucky for me, I've got tons of options - center console, cubby space under radio, etc. Don't forget, police are getting more and more uptight about "talking and texting" while you're driving, so the less you have your phone on you the better. If you're hell bound to play with your phone when you're going somewhere, let someone else drive (or look it up on their phone) instead.
The reason I need to get to the phone is not to talk or text, but to un-pause audio books. When ever I pause the book (to ask my wife a question or to answer one) I must unpause at the phone. My 0ther cars you can do it at the touch screen.
People should care less about theirs cell phones and look at the dam road ! There is a dedicated compartment for it. Plug it there in the USB and close to little door. Done.
I listen to audio books on long drives. It requires a touch on the phone screen every now and then. This might not be great but I'm pretty sure in a seven hour drive you migh take your eyes off the road for a instant or two as well. I am trying to avoid fumbling with the compartment which is inarguably less safe.

With the bench seat, when it's flipped down I have 4 total there, and another one the door, so I usually have a 1 or 2 available. On long drives, the ones on the seatback are used for our current drinks, door holder for backup water bottles, and the floor ones are free, so the phone'll sit there. Not sure how that would play out with the console setup though.
I have it stuck below the power port to the right of the screen on the silver smooth part. Has not fallen off yet and that was with sub zero temps in winter. Not to mention, its a wireless charger.
Thanks, this might be the answer. It is however not very ...uh pretty. (in my opinion)

Ah, for that use case, I'd probably recommend a dash mounted phone holder (like the various ones shown through this thread). You'll want something easily reached without having to really touch the phone, just the screen.
I was replying to to each answer to show respect and gratitude. Respect and gratitude would take all day. so I am replying by type of answer, of which there seemed to be three.
1. To those who say just stay off the phone:
First Im not reeding text or social media. I just need to hit the screen every now and then and it is safer not to have to fumble around for it. Second I was asking for help mounting a phone, not a sermon.
2. To those who said use the truck touch screen:
I don't have unlimited data, so I used the trucks navigation. Sync forces you to use your phone nav which uses data. If you don't use sync you can not restart an audio book through the touch screen. you can, however pause it. (yeah It does not make sense to me either)
3. To those who showed ways they mount their phone:
Thank you. I will probably use one of your Ideas, and the links to amazon were a great addition! I'm sorry but none of them made me say "Wow that's perfect!". That said, most were better than anything I had come up with. It bugs me how much GM and Ram lead Ford in this area. (both have integral visible phone storage)
