Plastic trim on tailgate

I’m sick of the plastic push in piece getting yanked out when unloading or sliding stuff from bed. I can’t stand the fact that the whole top side of gate is plastic either...
Anyone done anything about it?
WTH Ford- these aren’t pretty boy Chevys. These are work trucks...

I installed the Ford tail gate protector, it raises the height just enough to slide items out and not connect with the small lip.

Yet to see a work truck keep they plastic trim since 97. Got to say most of them are missing on the fleet trucks I have. For the ones that are still on they are held on with silicone RTV.
