On 77-79 trucks you could get the two tone option with race track trim on a Custom model truck. Does anyone have one of these trucks that is still mostly original? If so, I am wondering whether there is any trim on the tailgate or if it is still plain. I have seen tailgates with the trim "sticks" across the top and bottom and painted raised letters. I'm wondering if this could have been the setup for this option of truck. Thanks in advance
Probably could have ordered it with several options as far as tailgate trim. I added all the trim to my tailgate just cuz I like the look. My 76 Custom has the regular dent trim that I added on also.

My '77 was originally shipped as a two tone with RT trim Custom. It has the two pencil strips across tailgate and while I used white decals on tailgate, originally FORD was painted maybe. Only trim missing is what was removed when I had it repainted in 1989 .... the one that ran around back of cab at top of bed.
When new it had a silver metallic roof and infield in race track and a dark metallic red elsewhere. When I bought it, it had been repainted white above dent, red below. I had infield painted red and the rest white.
Thanks for the response guys. It seems like every time I find a tailgate for sale (the bed I bought didn't have a tailgate) it either has all the trim possible on it or nothing. I have yet to find one with just the strip across the top and bottom which is what I want. Guess I will keep looking either that or add the two strips to a plain tailgate. Thanks again hickory and tbear.
