1968 302. In the process of installing Long Tube headers. For clearification purposes; using FelPro exhaust gasket and I do not need to use gasket sealant? Also, as best as I can determine torque value is around 24 ft. lbs, intend starting a 17 ft. lbs and working up to 24. working from the center out. Appreciate suggestions/comments as to whether I should use 'lock tight' or something similiar on the bolts?
Good luck getting a torque wrench on header bolts. Ain't gonna happen. I use soft copper gaskets and tighten all with end wrenches till the gaskets are fully compressed. The soft copper does not compress further and the bolts stay tight forever. I used to use 7/16" headed header bolts but have since gone to 3/8" headed bolts. Impossible to over torque using a 3/8 end wrench, not even when doubling the wrenches to get more torque.
Found the gaskets are made by Hooker and I am not impressed so I intend to check with local Napa Auto parts tomorrow and check on what flavors they have to offer. Yes, opened package of the 6 point header bolts and realized tigthning will be a labor intensive. I do have the option of using the 6 point or the old 'allen wrench' type but appears regardless both can be a major pain in the backside. I thank you for the input!.
While the allen head bolts sound good, a lot of headers simply will not allow access to the top of the bolt. You can use the ball-ended allen wrenches, but I don't see them being able to aplpy enough torque. This is why most people end up using open-ended wrenches to tighten them. Then the problem comes when some times you can't slip the wrench onto enough of the flats of the bolts, and trying to torque them just rounds the corners off.
I end up using several different 3/8 end wrenches when I do headers. I have at least a half dozen in my collection. Ain't met one bolt that couldn't be done with them.
Fortunately, I have acquired numerous spare wrenches over these many years and with a little imagination seems I should be able to whittle
a couple down to fit.
I greatly appreciate the input.
Baddad, from a previous thread, I eventually used the header bolts as guides when installing the trans, since I was not on even ground it finally dawned on me I had to lift the bell to align with the trans, slid-on like butter, it would have saved me a hell of alot of work had I had this epiphany sooner.

Again, I thank U's all for the help!!
Glad it helped. But those were head bolts not header bolts.
