5 hours later I found a small enough magnet wand like listed above. Its a Lisle micro one. Played with it and finally got the magnet on the tip, pulled it through and the end of the stud is serrated. I held the threads and threaded a nut on and cranked down on it and it bit back into the aluminum. Slowly removed nut, put bracket up and slowly tightened nut hoping it wouldnt break loose. Got it Tq'ed to 16lbs and called it a day.. .
I was with you there in spirit all day. While I was taking apart my dash to install ram mounts and power ports I kept thinking, “I bet that guy is trying to fish that stud out right now. I’m holding onto this screw tight!!”
glad it it worked out. The only thing worse than what you had to do was every other option!
Brand new 22 F250. Front driver stud torn off by dealer when removing yellow shipping step. Nothing said at sale time. 3k miles and a month later side steps cannot be installed. Now I have to drive 30 minutes to Winston and have the body shop weld in a new stud. I am not too happy with Ford lately. My 17 Ecoboost F150 had the startup rattle repair once and now needs it again. Out of warranty and my dime this time. I traded my 2018 F150 Ecoboost on a brand new Mustang GT PP1 because it had the startup rattle. The Mustang has starting issues that are undiagnosable at 5K miles. My Lighting has been in production for well over a month with no updates. Now my F250 which is brand new needs to go to the body shop.
