Looking To Upgrade

Current truck is a 2016 F150 XLT premium. We need a SD and I’ve been looking at a couple of used ones online. Both are CCLB F350 SRW 2019 and 2018 models with around 100k miles each. One is an XLT premium like mine and the other is a King Ranch. My wife doesn’t find the seats in our current truck all that comfortable. Are the seats in the KR any better from an ergonomic standpoint or are they just a nicer cover? This is a standard KR without the ultimate package. It is also a couple hours away so I can’t just run over and take a quick look. Hoping someone here can give me some insight! Thanks in advance

My boss has a 2019 KR and I have a 2022 KR. I think the seats are better than my Lazy Boy in the house.
They have lots of adjustment, lumbar support and massage feature.

I know that market conditions are something never seen before. OP does not specify the truck's uses. But I don't see myself ever buying a 100k mile truck as a daily driver or primary ride.

This is something I’ll only drive sparingly when I need it for truck duties. I have put 30k miles on my current truck in the last 5 years and it was my daily driver for the first year. The main thing I need it to do that my F150 is not great at is pulling a 32’ travel trailer. Weights about 7k loaded. Not too big a task for a CCLB 1 ton SRW in my opinion.

You'd probably be OK then. 100k is not near the death sentence like vehicles of old, that's for sure. I pull 7-8k almost every day for 6 months of the year for a seasonal business. I now have a SRW F 350 with 7.3 but have done it with several F 250 6.2 trucks previously. As you state, not too big of a task at all.

Even a 3/4 ton can easily tow a 7000# travel trailer, so IMO, you don't need to limit your search to F-350s. I tow far more than that with an F-250, gas, standard bed.

I assume you're looking at gas engine since I didn't see it mentioned. You might get different answers if you are talking diesel.

I assumed he was talking diesel since a gas CCLB 2019 King Ranch would be an exceptionally rare bird. I bet 98% of those were diesel.

To add to it, used car prices are falling each month now at a steady pace (confirmed by statistical reports). The longer people wait the more they will fall. A couple of the big non dealer used lots in our area have been sitting on the same inventory for a while now (5+ months). At some point some of these places will be forced to unload cheap or send some of those vehicles to auction.

Once used vehicle pricing drops then new car sales should drop as well...which needs to happen.

Been there done that. My last truck was a 2012 F250 gas I bought with 110k on it and it had been a state of NM truck since new. Great service records but clearly run hard and had 7000 idle hours on it in addition to the miles. I drove it daily for 3 years, plowed snow with it in the winter and ran the mileage up to nearly 200k. Our son has it now and continues to run that truck daily with no problems. To say 100k isn't the death knell it once was is an understatement. Even years ago I had a company F150 with the 5,4 and 320k miles on it. It was worn out but it still drove reasonably well, didn't use oil, original trans and all.

What would kill me is the cost of a late model 100k truck these days. I bet the KR will cost more than my new truck did last September...

The entire economy is taking a big hit with massive inflation. Large numbers of people have pulled back spending. Our local home sales dropped 50% from May '21 compared to May'22 and inventory has doubled. I see big price reductions daily now when a year ago people were bidding over asking first day on the market, no matter what it was. Correction might be too gentle a term for the crash we are about to see IMO.

Thanks for the replies guys. My main question was regarding the seats in the KR compared to the XLT as far as ergonomics. Wondering if they are the same “profile” or are they just a nicer seat cover? The trucks I’m looking at are 6.2 gas which is all I need. I agree the diesel will tow better and get better fuel mileage. I’ve owned 4 of them in the past and also big block 3/4 ton trucks so I know what to expect. As for the economy and current truck prices I agree that prices will probably fall in the next few months. They’ll also fall on my current truck so it’s just guessing game on when to sell or trade. Super Duties seem to be holding their values better than 150’s right now which is working against me also…

I pulled our 6K travel trailer for nearly three years with a 1/2 ton and it was perfectly capable and safe, just like your F-150 is. Smart money is to keep and use the F150 for another year or two, until the market on trucks and RV's tanks....and it will.

I do not think the seats are much different unless they are the multi contour massaging versions. Otherwise just leather and probably seat heaters on the KR vs an XLT. I have done 1000 miles in a day in our XLT a few times. I find the seats to be very comfortable if that helps. I think the 6.2 is a great engine and will do the work you need done. Probably expect about 8-9 mpg towing with your proposed set up. Good Luck!

I don't doubt your experience. Only saying that I don't think it would be for me.
Also agree with your statement about the likely price on a 100k mile truck at this point in time.

I have also done a 1000 mile day in a Platinum and an STX cloth and the Platinum was a little better. Similar mile trucks same motor.

I would go with whichever has the 4.30 and/or is in the best shape.

100k miles is a big maintenance interval. 16 spark plugs is one item. To simplify your life I would change cabin and motor filters, all fluids, and the 16 spark plugs before driving it off the lot.
