...meaning one is to take a 25 year old truck in for service to fix a problem which I would like to fix myself and a problem that the service department probably would like for me to fix also.
You are incorrect in your assumption that you cannot repair it yourself. From the information that I provided it indicates that the air bag light in the dash is not working. Is this correct? Does the light come on when you first turn the key to run? Retrieve the fault code and figure out what is wrong. The clockspring was notorious for going bad which you can replace in your driveway. No dealer or service center/shop required.
I have already replaced the clockspring. The air bag light in the dash does come on and flashes constantly. I will remove the air bag one more time and connect the clockspring to the air bag and then see what code the air bag in the dash is flashing. Thanks
Replaced air bag. Air bag indicator light in dash is on for the six seconds with key in run position; then, gives a code 12 repeatedly. I have a new battery and good voltage in this truck. This code 12 I assume is signaling low voltage. Don't make sense. Also, chime sounds 5x5.
I would rather die like a real man without a airbag, my motorcycle dont got no lamo seatbelts or airbags.
In that case I hope you also don’t wear leather or a helmet. May I suggest only wearing shorts? Just in case you make it through the accident you can be manly while they pick asphalt/ gravel out of you.

haha! been there done that, learned from it. always wear my cycle gear now, have over 80,000 street miles under my belt on a bike. squid b gone.
Ten amp fuse reinstalled in knee panel fuse box. Now exhibiting code 13 ( Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground). Now, what to do -- disarm the bag or try to find where it is grounded which may prove to be quite a task??? Short couldn't be in or around new clockspring as I installed it and don't recall anywhere it may be grounded.
Got all hooked up. Code 13 says short to ground. Found right hand and left hand sensors. No obvious shorts. No drag on battery. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! All roads pointing toward disabling.
Does the Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor control anything other than operation of the air bag on this 1994 Ford, F-150, 5.0L, SWB truck? It appears to have two wiring harness connected.
Connector C217 is mainly power and C218 is the interface to the Safing sensor, airbag and crash sensors. No other function/control other than the Airbag lamp in the instrument cluster.
Code 13 indicates a short in the Safing sensor/Airbag not the crash sensors. In the event the Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor senses a short to ground in that circuit it will flash out Code 13 and.....blow the internal thermal fuse. If you would repair the shorted circuit then you will see Code 51 flash out (Internal Thermal Fuse open).
With that internal fuse open there is pretty much no way to trigger that bag without opening it up and applying power with jumper leads and a battery.
Thank you very much for your quick response. It is very helpful information. This info will help to fix my air bag system. Again, Thanks very much. What an education about air bag system on this forum. Iraa
