Yes, looks like you are confirming what I found? Taking trans tomorrow open up and probably rebuild, new seals for sure. I guess they have improved them? Should I start another thread on some other questions? Intake and maybe whatever?

Enjoyed the post, it was nice to see someone else going through the same process.
I'm picking up another engine tomorrow, to rebuild for my '72. It's also supposed to be a 390, but until I open it up to see the crank and rods, I won't really know.
It has D2TE-A heads, but needs to be completely rebuilt. I gave the guy $200.00 for the entire motor.

When I get it opened up and start the build, I'll start a new thread.

Thank again, I enjoyed reading your post.

Hey Dan. Glad you like it. I just got back from checking the trans. Looked like was from a 62 Ford and not 70's like I thought. Gonna pull my 360 trans tomorrow and take to him and see if it is better option than the 62? The linkage is different on these C6 transmissions and then a few of the internal parts need some work besides the normal rebuild kit. My 390 I got looks good internally and 400.00 worth of new parts he put in. Best I can see now it was from 68 which unless someone tells me different should be a 320 hp with 4 barrel? This should be a big improvement from the 360 which I thought was ok for performance. I really don't know that much and rely on info especially from this site! I will start another thread about other ideas. Thanks

1962 Ford car with FE engine could have an FX or MX Cruise-O-Matic that has 14 trans pan bolt holes.

C6 introduced in 1966 cars, in 1968 F100/350, has 17 trans pan bolt holes.

Bill. I didn't count bolts but was there watching a full time transmission guy open it up. Based on the internals is why he said that. The linkage is different and would need to be swapped and that along with other issues is now why we will take a look at the 360 transmission in the truck now which I know needs to be rebuilt.
