Tire VIN codes

Hey guys, so this seems to be my only place for reliable info in my build! So I decoded as much as I could by myself from my VIN but I can’t find anything to tell me what a 5 means for tires for my truck. I started all of this because the guy who sold me the truck said it was a camper special but I didn’t know enough at the time to correct him. Anyways I’m deep into the rabbit hole now and want to try and find the most original tires I can. I know Ford didn’t put radials on trucks yet at this point but I’m hoping to get close! Thanks for always being my go to place for help!

The 5 is for a red interior. There never was a "tire code" on the data plate.

That makes way more sense. I guess I got thrown off from it saying “tire” above the number.

Do you know what size rims and tires were stock though? The truck came with a mismatched set and I’m pretty sure I saw a Chrysler stamp on the front drivers side rim somehow.

And my 1969 C/S came with 7.50X16 Tires. I would recommend getting a Marti Report. You can get a basic one for $18, and it comes with some good information.

Here is what mine looks like. It does include original tire sizes. It will also tell you if you have a camper special or not.

My Marti report shows 16-8 front tires and 16-10 rears. I'm not a tire guy...is that tread or sidewall thickness?

7.50 X 16 8 ply
7.5 is the rim width
16 is the rim height
the ply is how many plys or layers in the tire. more plys, more weight carried.

No, the 7.50 is the tire tread width under the old, old tire measurement system. The rim width is more likely 5.50 or 6.0.
