I bought a 1988 f150 with a 300 inline 6 cylinder and a c6 transmission from a friend. He bought it dirt cheap because the guy thought the tranny was bad. He paid a mechanic to rebuild it. He tore it down and said everything looked great just needed a front seal. My friend never really drove it so he passed the good deal into me. I paid him and checked all the fluids. I had to add 4 quart of tranny fluid. I drove it for my everyday driver for over a year only adding a 1/4 quart which was leaking from the speedometer prong. The 300 loved the gas so I bought something cheaper on gas. I let the truck set for 2or 3 months. I got in it and noticed the tranny slipped. I had to add 5 or 6 quarts. Long story short if u drive it everyday or so or three it's fine. If it sits very long it seems to leak a lot pretty fast. Also seems like it's worse if the front is facing down hill. I'm puzzled!. Can anyone help or has anyone had this happen to them? Please help
The torque converter drainback valve is supposed to prevent the torque converter from draining into the pan. I think yours isn't working. When an extra 4 quarts or so end up in the pan after sitting the level gets very high and some will leak out.

Thank you Mark. Is that something you have to pull the tranny to fix? I've not been able to check the fluid level like that the dang starter just went out. If the drain back valve was bad would it take a few seconds for the torque converter to catch after putting it in drive. I have noticed it it sat over night or the weekend it would take a while to catch in drive.

Yes,it's located in the pump.Yes,that is textbook symptom of a bad drainaback valve.Sell the truck since you don't need it and let the next guy fix it haha.
