Hello,
can anyone tell me if the 2003 Ford Excrusion already has a data bus system? We have to order the cables for the European towbar. But these are available for vehicles with a data bus system and for vehicles without a data bus system.
Greetings from Germany
Excursions have a data bus system, yes. How well whatever you're doing will work might vary depending on your engine. I know my 7.3L one has an OBDII port but the stuff coming out of it isnt pure OBDII standard. The gas engine may be though.
Thank you for your answers. Unfortunately, I still do not know if we need a relay for the CAN bus connection or not.
Today it was very funny, I phoned Ford Germany in Cologne and they told me, they have no idea about Ford Excursions and I should call Ford USA or send a e-mail. So I called the Ford Hotline in the US, called my VIN number nicely and described my problem (my English is good enough and he understand what I want) Then I waited 5 minutes..he comes back to the phone an told me to wait again because the friendly gentleman wanted to inform himself. In the end, he said quite proud he had a phone number in Germany for me and they can help me with questions about the Ford Excursion.
I thought so great please give me the phone number ... and what should I tell you, he gave me the number from Ford Germany .. LOL
I said that they could not help me there and they told me I should call in the US ..but he said he was sorry but they had no suitable data on the car and I would then ask a garage nearby.
I wonder why Ford can not answer to their own cars. I know he has not been built in a long time, but still there must be some informational material.
Again, the excursion has a CAN bus. Virtually all cars since 1996 (plus some earlier) have CAN or something similar. The Excursion was made as a medium duty truck which means its CAN bus is somewhat standard with OBD2 but some of it is not. Some of the data you're looking for may not be available and there are probably some things on the bus one wouldnt expect.
