New owner maintenance.

As noted in another thread...I just bought a 2012 F250 with the 6.2 L gasoline engine.
The owner insisted that that oil was new, but I typically change the oil whenever I buy a vehicle...my OCD kicks in.
I'm looking to replace the air filter as well...don't know when that was last done...and probably some fluids. PS, brake, differentials...I'll likely get the transmission serviced before the summer towing season begins.

I'm thinking I should probably change the fuel filter as well, but where is it?
Anything else I should look at?

fuel filter is in the gas tank. and is part of the fuel pump.. so NEVER except for pump failure.

I would do all the fluids... so its on your program..

I agree with all fluids. I got burned on my last truck, guy said he just put amsol syn rear diff fluid in. I didn’t drain it right away like I normally did and after 30,000 miles or water mixed in with the fluid that I didn’t know about I paid for it to the tune of $2,000 for an axle rebuild. You are on the correct track.

CHANGE ALL FLUIDS!!!!!

OK...the wife's RAV4 also has the in-tank fuel filter, so I guess that's all right.
Anyone ever install a POST-filter, FWIW....would that even be useful?

Going through the PO's maintenance records...lots of Mr. Lube type of receipts for oil changes and stuff like that....some from the Dealer. Looks like tranny was serviced about 30,000km ago...I'll still do it anyway for my own peace-of-mind.

so you know.. the 2011 to 2018 transmission has a thermostat in the transmission.....

so you can only drain out half of the fluid with a filter change... so in 2 years do it again..

even most Ford dealers do not have the heated transmission fluid exchange machine.... for a full flush at one time...

these Ford trucks are NOT your fathers Oldsmobile ...

How many miles on the truck? Spark plugs are the first thing outside of fluids that come to mind.

110,000 km's....someone said that's around 68,000 miles.
Plugs are on the radar, although I am NOT fond of changing out 16 plugs!

do NOT fear the plugs.... top 8 are easy... bottom 8.. just remove front wheels and inner fenders.. they are right there...

I am 68 years old. did mine last fall.. 2 cups of coffee.. and I was finished.

6.2 Spark Plugs

Are the 6.2 spark plugs known to break inside the motor??

I have a 2012 6.2l and i was told that they are known to break and it made me nervous to do mine

I've only heard of it happening on one motor so it's not a known problem. Just be straight on the plug and it will take a little pull to break them loose.

Thank you for the insight you may have just given me enough confidence to try it

Putting the cats back in won't help your mileage, if anything since it is another restriction in the exhaust it will hurt you.

Might want to look into making a new thread on this since it's a separate subject, but unless you need them for inspections there's no reason to put them back in.

Make a new thread, give us more info about what's going on with your truck, gears, trans, etc, and then we can give you some pointers. That said, if you're getting 8mpg around town that's probably close to normal, if you're getting 8 on the highway either you're driving 90 everywhere or you've got some issues going on that cats aren't gonna help.

Its just running super rich and low gas mileage, I also put a flow master exhaust in it and now it acts a little weird while shifting

Someone must of fooled the computer if its not throwing a CEL. Putting the cats back and ensuring the o2 sensors are operating correctly and not being fooled or gapped WILL help your fuel mileage as it will lean it out and run more efficiently. The cat back exhaust will free up the flow a bit but its not going to change the fuel map or help mileage, it actually can hurt your mileage under load as it actually trades low end torque for a few more hp on the top end.
