Hello Ford owner's
Can a '96 E4OD in my F-150 be
reprogramed for firmer 1-3
shift's? (line pressure) also what can be done about changing the engagement of the overdrive from 40 mph to 55 mph without having to push OD button?

Banks makes a module that installs in one hour--the TransCommand. Check it out at Bankspower.com. It firms up all shifts by raising line pressure. I put it in my 460 v8 motorhome (1990) and it works great. Pricey at about $250. May want to check out B&M makes one or more shift kits for this tranny and they cost a whole lot less, which I didn't buy as they didn't have them for my older unit. I think your 1994 may apply though.

Oops. Your 1996 unit. I also would like to know how to hold off OD until 55 mph. My mechanic told me to lock it out in town as it would get poorer fuel milage and is harder on the tranny to run OD at slower speeds. Finally, why is it this tranny won't kick down a gear until you actually stomp the pedal to the floor?

TallPaul is right, Banks makes a unit called the "TransCommand" I have one on my 96 and it works great.
B&M also makes one for 40 bucks that Summit sells. I have one of those on the shelf I never installed because I bought the Power Pack Unit and the Trans Command together. The TC increase's Pump pressure by 20%.
I couldn't tell you how well the B&M works though. You might check around and see if you can find someone with a B&M that you can talk too.
If you decide on using the B&M because of price. Send me an email. I'd send you the B&M for free. It's just sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
