97 base model.
A few years ago, I converted passenger window to power with jy part. Recently it wouldn't roll down. Solution was to switch up a second and switch down. Last week this trick stopped working. I don't remember which year I pulled the part from or F150/Expedition. Does year/model matter? Also do you replace just the regulator or the track/regulator assembly? Thank you.
Somehow my work truck doesn't have GEM leak issue. I removed the regulator and tested it. Worked fine. Remounted and lubed the track. Window is working now..... Until it may bind again.
Searched this forum and found the info I needed, how to remove regulator without removing the entire assembly and how to lubricate the track. Thank you.
If you ever need to, I have fixed about 5 or 6 Ford power window motors by now. What's wrong is they use little nylon ball kinda things in the motor that wear out and disintegrate. Or maybe the grease packed in there stock erodes the nylon or plastic ball. You can get a pack of dorman ford window motor things at most box stores this is so common. or you could use ball bearings similar size or regular nuts (what I do). However, someone on another post informed me of the dangers of metal nuts or ball bearings. But, I have no fear of me not having sense to remove my fingers from a window and cutting them off. So, I'm choosing nuts for a likely permanent repair. if you use the dorman plastic *****, likely you'll get to do it again.
I prefer drilling holes in the metal door skin after removing door panel, so I can reach the 3 bolts that hold elec motor to regulator. I use a body dent puller from Harbor Freight sucked up to the window (this is one of those cheap orange body dent suction cup pullers), to keep window and regulator from lowering after elec motor is removed.
Beware, just went through this with Amazon replacement motor, no where near ford quality and doesn't line up properly, so from now on I'll be redoing old ones even if I have to resort to junkyarding one. The ford ones are stout. It's rarely the motor bad, it's ALWAYS the 3 plastic ***** that completely dissolve.
Mine seems to be in the process of losing the plastic inserts. Next time the window binds, I will disassemble the motor and repair per your instruction. Thank you for sharing the info.
