Strange squealing sound
Hi all, hope you're doing well! Pls can you help me identify the source of the squealing sound in the video. It is a 2011 6.7 Powerstroke. The sound starts at 00:10. It was after cold start. Thank you very much!!!

Since it stops, that's the turbo after whatever process it goes though for the first < 1 minute depending on ambient temp. Original turbo? That's the highest pitch I've heard so far. My 2011 original turbo will occasionally sound like a mini table saw on and off for 10-15 seconds a few seconds after first startup when cold but I don't think I've heard the noise at all this winter, what little cold weather we've had. I looked through some old truck recordings but apparently never captured the noise.

It could quite possibly be one of the exhaust manifold studs broke and the gasket is acting like a reed at certain turbo vane positions. I had a 14 in the shop that sounded very similar. That's what it ended up being. Ford actually makes updated manifold studs and spacers for that issue. The manifolds are not expensive so if you find that's the issue replace them at the same time.
