External ATF filter?

Has anybody installed a spin-on oil filter on their ATF cooler circuit? Just picked up a "new" 2018 and want to maximize lifespan of components. I did this on my 2011 and it was fairly easy. Biggest challenge was than I couldn't flare the cooler steel line because it was so thick. Even with two hose clamps it still weeps a little now and then.

I don't know that I would. The internal filter is pretty good, and pulling the pan every once in a while is a good chance to see how things are doing in there.

Well it's a real pain now. I am still working on my prototype for the 10r80. You have to intercept the lines at the cooler and because the cooler is at the transmission and not up front it's not much room to work in. I am going to use all Parker components for the hydraulics just like my previous 6R80 install. Don't use hose clamps to hold the hoses that's a failure point.

. Use a Parker compression to JIC adapter on both lines. Then use a Parker JICx PushLoc barb on the adapter side. Run Parker PushLoc in a nylon wear sleeve or abrasion resistant silicone sleeve to the remote filter base. I am using a Wix 24755 base and Parker NPTxJIC to JICx Pushloc barbs. So far I have all the hydraulics (130.00 with filter base and filter) I need to fab a filter mount, I plan on mounting it to the passenger inner frame rail adjacent to the transfercase .

Pulling the pan is a real PITA on the 10r80, you have to drop the exhaust out and all the coolant hoses.

Yeah, definitely. It's the only way to see how much metal is there though.

I will post up pictures, holding back right now until Ford can get this clunk fixed I have going on. Definitely look into the Parker fittings if you are going to do this, you won't be sorry.

ford390gashog I wanted to send you a PM but your full. Any chance you have a part number list for the parker fittings to connect my rubber atf line from the filter outlet to my cut-off cooler return hard line on my 2011?

Let me do some digging, I may have the receipt. I measured the line OD with a caliper and went to the Parker store.

I can see the benefits but you should do this after your warranty expires because I can see a Ford dealer or Ford themselves denying any transmission warranty claims or repairs.

I know this might sound ridiculous to many including myself but it’s true.

Just something to think about.
