Bed step people

Can you tell me if your tailgate can be just released dropped without slamming down? I recently added a tailgate with the bedstep and man it’s at least double what the original weighed. It feels like there’s some dampening happening but not enough that I feel I can just release it as it will slam down

Some higher trim levels come with a tailgate damper; we have on on our 2019 Lariat. I added a damper to our 2017 XLT... problem solved.

I have a 2019 F-350 Lariat. It's a loaded Lariat. My Tailgate drops slowly. It came that way.

I have a KR and the tailgate drops slow and gentle. I never thought I'd use the step but that thing is incredible.

I use my bed step occasionally. It drops fast on the XLT. It is a pain to remove the step tailgate for my slide in camper because it is heavy.

For that reason I wish I did not have the step.

What’s the best deal people have found on these. I have a bunch of tools and equipment that I frequesntly can’t reach. I always open the rear door and stand on the retractable running board and lean like crazy to reach. I know one day, my jacket zipper is going to leave a nice long scratch in the paint. Shoot. Wrong thread. Sorry guys. Looking for side steps.

I installed the Deezee tailgate dampener on my 2018 F350 XLT CC. It was an easy installation and half the cost of the Ford dampener.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Teddy I found a brand new one off a 2018 for $200. That’s the whole tailgate. I just swapped my handle out as my lariat has the light and chrome handle.
The hinge was different on this tailgate but the owner had also included the hardware of where it came off.
Thats why I suspected there is a dampener system.
This one drops but not full force. Not sure if dampener is built into the tailgate and like a spring need to wind it one turn more etc

The factory damper is a one-way design that controls the tailgate opening drop. Closing resistance is negligible. The damper is located inside the right rear fender below the taillight assembly; see detail #7 in the partial instructions below.

My tailgate is dampened and I also have the tailgate step. I was curious about the side steps that retract. I read one thread and then looked around on here some more. I came to this thread thinking it was about the side steps and then made my reply. This is the wrong thread. My bad. Lol
