Does not come standard on Lariat as my CC Lariat does not have it....also glad to see others have installed without removing the entire tailgate. After watching the vid, I was thinking the same "why not just take out the one side and support the tailgate on a step ladder, saw horse, etc.......good to know that will work along with threading the bottom hole from the back side.....should make the install a snap.
I'm tempted to order this, though my F250 is still about 40 days off. I'd hate to get it, paint it ahead of time, then find that the truck already has it. I'm getting a Lariat, but not Lariat Ultimate Package.
I get the impression that it comes with the remote tailgate release, which makes sense as you wouldn't want the lid to remotely slam down. That's part of the Ultimate package, I believe.
However I am getting the tailgate step. It's not part of that option to help counteract the extra weight of the step, is it? Would be nice if it were.
I have a F350 Lariat Value package with the tailgate step. It did not have the damper originally. I picked it up 2 days after I brought home the truck.
My damper kit arrived today from Amazon. Step #5 of the instructions indicates some sort of tape (?) should be applied to the arm-end of the replacement hinge:
Can anybody clarify: Electrical tape? Teflon tape? Other? Ignore?
I have it, but have not opened the box yet....I think it comes painted black. My truck is White Platinum and don't really want to spend $50 on a rattle can of paint for 1 hinge. Going by the auto parts store tonight to see if they have a white pearl paint that is close enough.....you really can't see it unless the gate is down so I'm also thinking I'd just take the other hinge off and paint it black to match.
The replacement hinge housing is black. Between our truck's dark blue color and the black spray-in bed liner (including inside the tail gate), I think/hope the hinge body will get lost".
Installed mine this morning as well as removed my factory drop in bedliner. I am putting a cap and bed rug on this coming week so this was a cool addition to the back of the truck.
Pretty fun to just drop the tailgate when you open it.
Another hint....I cut a hole in the box that the hinge came in and inserted the hinge so that the plate was laying flat on the box.....makes for a good painting surface and the parts you don't need to paint are inside the box....worked well.
Got mine installed this morning; functions nominally. The hinge bracket's OEM black paint fades away rather well against the blue paint and black spray-in liner:
