351m after setting timing was slapping and running rough...so I decided to tear it apart ..found a broke push rod. So what do I need to address? Bent valve? Stuck valve? Got drivers head off and it's beautiful nothing wrong pistons and bores look great still see crosshatching. Working on passenger still. So I'm assuming I should do valve stem seals while I'm tore apart? Advice on that? Do I gotta lap in valves again or just keep em timed up ?
I'm guessing valve guides that rusted up from sitting so long. Yes - do valve stem seals while you are there and no - you shouldn't need to lap the valves.
you are pretty far into it at this point and it would suck to put it back together and regret not doing something about the stock components.
At minimum, make sure you have a good timing chain.
If this were mine I’d replace the cam, lifters and valve springs. There a lots of options for cams that are far better than the 40+ year old technology stock cam.
While it’s appart you may also want to think about having the heads check for flatness.
Pour some fluid down the ports first too see if the valves seats are leaking. Then take the spring off then check the guide. Something caused it to break. If you can't find anything then it's got to be something in the lifter is broke or cam lobe going flat.
Lifters were perfect, valves didn't leak after new seals, cam looked good to me..123k miles..only thing I could think of is detonation in a cylinder broke the push rod due to timing being way off...anyways it's back together..had another gear head buddy look and he agreed everything else looks ok.
