1978 F150 build
I recently inherited my dad's 1978 F150 and will begin build this spring. Im learning as I go but have basic knowledge of the truck - which brings me here.
General specs are: 351M engine, 4WD, manual unsynchronized 4 speed transmission (1st gear is "granny" gear"), short bed. What am I missing?
The rig sat in a barn for 10+ years. New battery and it started right up, even passed emissions with no problems. That being said, there are some obvious items that need TLC. Drives better than expected but I notice some issues that seem "off". Idles high most notably while driving. Ive got new fuel pump and filter - although LMC filter for this make/model threads directly into carb. Existing filter is in-line canister. Carb is aftermarket Holley 4brl.
1st Question - will fuel filter and pump address idle issue?
2nd question - will replacing larger bore in-line filter with smaller bore carb-threaded filter have any performance affect?
Thanks in advance! I look forward to getting this project up and moving with some help from this group!!
Do you have pics of the two filters? If it's not too much smaller, then it should be OK. But if it's too small, you could end up starving for fuel.
And welcome to FTE!
If it has been sitting for 10+ years it is definitely in need of a carb rebuild. I would start there. You can buy a kit fairly cheaply.
