Hi! I’m replacing the steering box on my 87 f150 2wd 300 standard. It seems the new one I picked up has a larger spline than the original. My Pittman arm will not fit on the new box. Everything is the same except the spine. My original box has a 40 mm spline and the new one has a 46 mm spline. Hoe can I make the new box fit? Thanks
i bought this from some guy who srapped his e250 van. Part number of old box is d9ac-aa and numer. 40 underneath. New box is. D9ac-aa and number 46. Underneath.
What year and such wss the van? Can you count the splines on the sector shaft? Long story short, you probably wont be able to use it unless you can find a pitman arm to match.
I found a listing for a 96 E250 with a 5.8 that shows that box with 36 splines. It was for the vans over 4200lb gross front axle weight. Autozone shows a pitman arm for it, but it may not work with your truck, just the vans. You could go to a parts store and see if they have one for your truck and the one for that van and see if they are the same length and offset.
Thanks for your reply! Seems they are not the same. I crossed referenced part no. with Canadian tire prior to purchase and they told me same prat no. / listing. I checked all four series f 150 250 350 e 250 and they list box with identical no. ****ty since I paid $180 for it. I thought about different Pittman arm considering maybe it would be able to work. Thanks again!!!
Yeah! Again just looking to find a soloution. Maybe some other member can advise how to proceed. Clearly there is a way around this. All dimensions fit except spline. Anyone know of a specific Pittman arm which would work. Cheers!
