I've got a '53 F100 with a 215 Clipper Six. I'm getting ready to yank it out and restore the truck. Can this motor be bolted to an engine stand at the flywheel end or do I need a "adapter" to side mount it like the shop manual shows? I'am concerned about the weight damaging the stand or the block where it'd bolt up to (or my foot if it's in the way when it falls or coming home to find it laying in the floor with a cracked block). If the adapter is needed where would I find one or am I going to have to make one (oh boy)?
Shouldn't be a problem. I had my 300 on a stand long ways, and it was fine. It does look kinda scary hanging out so far, but I never had a problem. The legs of the stand extend out pretty far also. The weight of the engine pretty much plants it. Always be careful though. Same with hoisting. MK
I thank both of you for your replies. I've hung 2.5L, 318's and a 460 off my stand without too much trouble. Once the V8's are almost all put together I'd have to lift them by the front so I could spin it otherwise sometimes a mounting bolt would would hit the stand not allowing it to turn. I couldn't picture a long in line six hanging there without binding up (or breaking off). Maybe I should be looking at a new stand, the one's I have are rated for 750lbs (one) and 850lbs (two) and all three have done the same thing and all three are from different manufacturer's. Or figure out a way to modify them to get rid of the problem. Thnaks again, sorry for rambling on.
If it sags too much, I've used a 2x4 wedged between the pan and the leg of the stand to help give extra support. Can't speciffically for an inline but it helped when I had my heavy 455 Pontiac on the stand.
