I have been following the thread regarding an engine stand for the flathead V8 with interest, as I will be needing one sooner rather than later. I have searched the archives and read many posts about them, but have found few sources recommended. My motor is a 1951 with the separate bell housing, so I could use the type that bolts on the back, or get the adapter plate to bolt to the exhaust holes.
What I want is a decent, reasonably priced AMERICAN made engine stand. I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DO NOT want a Chinese stand. No way. Period.
I would love to find a KRWilson or a Manzell, but I don't have the luxury of waiting until one shows up. I have found that OTC still makes one in the USA that can be found for under $500.00, and want to know if there are other American stands available in that price range.
So, are there any recommendations? Has anyone seen or used the OTC stand? Anybody got a good one that they are done with and want to sell?
If you really want made in USA and have $500 to spend, pick up some scrap from the local salvage yard, find a local, small businessman welder and put him to work building you the best custom stand imaginable.
I am ordering a cradle from Stumpy's, so I will wait until I get it to decide if I still want an engine stand. I'm still looking, just with not the same sense of urgency.
