Intercooler for a 97

I am in the beginning process of building my 7.3. I would like to do the intercooler while there is no motor. My budget prefers the DIY version. Could anyone provide a list of items I would need for this? I know the e99 spider and 6.0 intercooler. What makes it an e99?

e99 is before 99.5-2003 SD models

IIRC E99 is 2 in and SD is 3 inch for intake plenums

The e99 has 2 3/8 hookups to the intake plenums which are 2 inch stock on our trucks taking a step boot to hook it up. The later trucks are 3 inch instead of 2 3/8. I'm sure you can buy the boots at riffraff.

With a 97 could you just use a SD Y and install 3” SD plenums? Wouldn’t that save some fab work and searching for an E99 spider?

Yes as long as you swap over gtp38 turbo off a SD. You can also just run a van turbo and swap 3” plenums. I have a van y and turbo as well.

Just purchased some stuff from freakify. I’ll see what else I need when I start laying everything out. Not in a rush. Haven’t gotten my block back from the machine shop yet.

once I get going, I’ll be looking for more stuff I’m sure
